FASTING!
“Fasting is the willing abstinence or reduction from some or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time”.
Did you know that fasting could be good?
What happens when we fast? Insulin levels drop and the body uses stored energy to stock up. (use of glycogen and fat deposits).
It reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension
Increases the production of Human Growth Hormone (HGH): this hormone tends to decrease with age. Low levels of it are associated with lower muscle mass, an increase in the percentage of body fat, a decrease in bone density, and premature aging.
Increase mental clarity, focus and concentration.
Like exercise, increases the BDNF protein (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), responsible for the formation of new neurons and involved in long-term memory preventing diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc
Decreases the feeling of hunger and cravings for sweet things; This happens because sugar levels remain stable and leptin / insulin sensitivity is recovered.
Autoimmunity, gut issues, Alzheimer’s, and aging have all been found to benefit from the right kind of fasting. Short-term fasting specifically goes after visceral fat—the belly fat leading to inflammation and chronic diseases—providing a huge metabolic boost
There is a type of fast that mostly everyone can do every day, and that's the 12 hour window.
(last meal 7/8pm - first meal 7/8 am). falls into line with our natural circadian rhythms of when the sun is up or down.
NOTE: fasting is NOT for everyone and I do recommend to get a proper physician to guide you. Especially for those with a history of eating disorders. It could unbalance your hormones, and affect badly your thyroid. Is not recommend when pregnant or breastfeeding.
