SUGAR

This is a bad word! Specially for people who need to loose weight, and have insulin resistant (diabetes type 1-2), any inflammation or an autoimmune disease.

The problem with sugar is not just that extra spoon in your coffee, is all the hidden sugar in different products, such as pasta, cookies (an obvious one), coffees etc.

Here is a little list of some of our daily products that HAVE sugar.

  • INSTANT COFFEE: sorry to say it, yes! almost all instant coffees, specially the ones that reads “roasted”, same with the Nespresso capsules.

  • DRESSINGS: ketchup, mayonnaise, “light” dressings and soy sauce for example.

  • CEREAL: almost all the box cereals contain sugar.

  • RICE CAKES: read the labels!

  • YOGURT: even more when they have pieces of fruit in it.

  • CEREAL BARS: not always the healthiest snack.

  • SPORT WATERS: such as Gatorade and speed.

  • JAM & “LIGHT” PUDDINGS: just because they say “light” it does not mean they do not have sugar, usually they are only reduce by 30% only.

SWEETENERS: Artificial sweeteners have been scrutinized intensely for decades.

Aspartame, (NutraSweet) , Saccharin (Sweet’N Low), Sucralose (Splenda), Acesulfame K and Neotame (produce by NutraSweet). There is still a lot to investigate about them, but they usually relate them with: headaches, skin lesions, fatigue, edema and swelling, nausea, eye problems, insomnia, menstrual irregularities, and more such as cancer.

  • ASPARTAME: is of particular concern because it contains phenylalanine (50%), aspartic acid (40%), and methanol (10%), three well-recognized neurotoxins.

  • STEVIA:Stevia has not retained an official “approval,” it is allowed to be marketed and sold as a dietary supplement. The popularity of this product continues to increase because of its zero calorie content and score of zero on the glycemic index. The “white powder” is artificial and does not have the benefits of the “green powder”, which is the one I recommend.

  • TAGATOSE: is also considered a novel sweetener because of its chemical structure, but is manufactured from the lactose in dairy products.

Do you consume any of this products? are you reading the labels now? Now is always a good moment to do so!
